From the capital to the mystic North, golfers will be intrigued and excited.

Dublin city is peppered in culture and history as is the mystical North coast of Ireland. Combing both regions ensures an intriguing route that will test and excite golfers of all levels and entertain non-golfers!

From our recommended hotel in Dublin, you will play two rounds either at Portmarnock Golf Club, The Island Golf Club or Royal Dublin Golf Club. All of the courses are located just outside of the city centre and are exquisite examples of what the East coast has to offer the links golfer. If time allows for it the European Club just south in Wicklow is also an amazing addition to your itinerary. As you venture further north, your links game will be tested at County Louth Golf Club, Royal County Down, Portstewart Golf Club and the home of the 2019 Open Championship, Royal Portrush. These courses are pivotal to the heritage, history and the popularity of the sport in Ireland and offers a unique and enjoyable links test throughout.

Dublin, Ireland’s capital city, is steeped in history. Outside of your golf, the city is easy to navigate and has lots to offer. If you want a great pub scene, we will share some of our favourites with you. If you want to experience the city’s rich history, Trinity College, Kilmanham Gaol and Dublin Castle are a must. If you are a ‘Game of Thrones’ fan, why not visit Cushendun Caves, Dark Hedges, Murlough Bay, Ballintoy Harbour, Larrybane, Castle Ward, Inch Abbey and Downhill Strand as you travel North with your private Driver Guide. The region also boasts the Giant’s Causeway, an unmissable stop. We also recommend Bushmills Distillery, which may be the perfect 19th.

To ensure that you get the best tee times, accommodations and touring activities, we carefully design your trip to ensure each and every box is ticked to guarantee you will have the most memorable vacation both on and off the course. We secure your tee-times at these golf courses and you will enjoy seamless travel in private luxury vehicles with your personal golf-focused Driver Guide. Royal Dublin Golf Club 10

Royal Dublin

Royal Dublin Golf Club is one of Ireland’s oldest golf clubs. Founded in 1885, the club relocated to Bull Island in 1889. However, the course really took off after the 1920’s when it was rebuilt by Harry Colt after the course was damaged during the First World War. It underwent further redevelopment between 2004 and 2006 as Martin Hawtree aimed to add more length to the course as equipment developments saw the average golfer hitting the ball further and past any danger on the fairways.

European Club

European Club

If you are staying an extra night in Dublin City or maybe you have set up camp in Wicklow, the European Club is a real treat for golfers who are spending some time on the east coast. Just an hour south of Dublin City, the European Club provides one of the toughest links tests in all of Ireland. The course, by links standards, is quite new yet it feels as though golfers have been walking this track for over a century as the 18-hole course is carefully carved out of some of the best land in Brittas Bay.

The European Club has hosted the Irish Open 19 times since the competition’s inauguration in 1927. The last time the course held the event was in 2003. Each time the event was played, Portmarnock boasted a field of at least 34 competitors who were either major winners in prospect or had already held a major championship.

The Island Golf Club

The Island

The Island Golf Club is one of Ireland’s most underrated courses. Facing ocean views on 3 sides of the course, The Island was once, well, an island! It is now attached to the mainland though still an isolated peninsula-like spur of links land sandwiched between the Irish Sea, the beach of Donabate, and the Broadmeadow estuary. It is, as a result, quite easy on the eye! Its history dates back, like many Irish links courses, to the late 1800s. In recent years, course designers, like Eddie Hackett, have helped to redesign elements of the course to bring it into the new era of golf while still keeping its natural surroundings intact.

Portstewart Golf Club

Portstewart Golf Club

Portstewart Golf Club is one of Northern Ireland’s bucket list golf destinations. Like its neighbor, Royal Portrush, Portstewart has welcomed some of the best golfers in the world throughout its decorated history.

Most recently it held the Irish Open in 2017 which was won by Spanish sensation Jon Rahm. Though the history of Portstewart dates back to the late 1800s, the Strand course is a mix of the old and new.

After undergoing a major redevelopment, the course reopened in 1992 and features on pretty much every golf itinerary in Northern Ireland.

Royal Portrush Golf Club

Royal Portrush Golf Club

Not many golf courses in the world can boast about the status of their regular guests quite like Royal Portrush. Graeme McDowell, Padraig Harrington, Rory McIlroy, and Darren Clarke are all regulars at Portrush and have all won major championships. They were joined in 2019 by fellow Irishman, Shane Lowry, who won his first major championship on this very course at the 148th Open Championship.

Book of Kells at Trinity College

The Book of Kells Exhibition is a must-see on the itinerary of all visitors to Dublin. Located in the heart of Dublin City, a walk through the cobbled stones of Trinity College Dublin will bring visitors back to the 18th century, when the magnificent Old Library building was constructed, and which displays the Book of Kells.

The Book of Kells contains the four Gospels in Latin based on the Vulgate text which St Jerome completed in 384AD, intermixed with readings from the earlier Old Latin translation. The book is written on vellum (prepared calfskin) in a bold and expert version of the script known as “insular majuscule”.

Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin

Established in 1796, Kilmainham Gaol is a former prison in Dublin where numerous revolutionaries were locked up and executed. The guided tour of Kilmainham Gaol starts off at the prison’s chapel, where Joseph Plunkett married Grace Gifford shortly before being executed for participating in the Easter Rising. Visit the cells, still gloomy and dank and continue to the patio where the prisoners were executed. Kilmainham Gaol continues to be an iconic symbol for most of the Irish population, as a symbol of their rebellion against British domination.
